Melanie portrays the role of Betty, the ex-wife of a mobster who falls in love with Art Dodge (Antonio Banderas) and immediately expects marriage. Art, on the other hand, is preoccupied with restoring his fledgling business and with her sister (Daryl Hannah). Betty forges ahead with the wedding plans, unaware of the developments that are right under her nose. Melanie and Antonio saved their fireworks for off-screen! Shining ThroughDuring the second world war jewish/irish Melanie becomes the secretary of a lawyer (Michael Douglas), unaware that he is secretly a high-ranking colonel in the U.S. military. Some of her family were unable to escape Germany in time and are in hiding. Her concern for her cousins leads her into a dangerous mission to find and rescue them. She volunteers to become a spy in the home of an influential SS member in order to microfilm sensitive German military documents.

Working GirlMelanie plays Tess McGill, a secretary with high aspirations. She works for Katharine Parker (Sigourney Weaver) in a brokerage firm. Unable to get her ideas noticed, she pretends to be in a position of authority in order to do business with a client of the firm, Jack Trainer (Harrison Ford).
